L’ETO Caffe launches a dinner menu in Knighstbridge

L’eto Caffe is a chain that is growing around London. It is one of those new style cafes that serves ala carte lunches and dinners besides the cakes and salads on display.

This new branch in Knightsbridge along Brompton Road caters to the shoppers and the locals who  like to linger for a cup of coffee. Their stunningly colourful display of cakes in the window draws the crowds in. Following the trend of other cafes in London, they also have large plates of salads that you can take away or eat in. When we were there, a steady stream of customers came through to have cakes and coffees. It’s comfortable decor makes it a nice place to linger.

At their recent launch party, tasted a few of their cakes including their very popular Honey Cake but especially liked the caramel pudding. On a return visit, we had dinner off the ala carte menu.

The choices on the menu was not your usual cafe fare but are quite sophisticated. We started with this light prawn dish and a lovely seared tuna with an onion swirl.

The fillet of beef cooked perfectly medium rare with a delicious jus and accompanied by some fried shallots and no carbs. The second main was a very generous plate of tender grilled squid with some crispy chorizo crumbs and potato coins. They don’t skimp on the portions here. We were both pleasantly surprised by the quality and presentation of the dishes seeing as this was quite a casual dining space.

To  make up for the lack of carbs, we opted for a couple of cakes for dessert. This first is a rich chocolate mousse with raspberry coulis and a zingy lemon meringe tart. The mousse was spot on, smooth and rich but the pastry on the lemon tart could have been shorter and lighter. Nevertheless, the meal exceeded our expectations in terms of choice and execution.
